The Sports Climbing Wall at Amrita Vidyalayam was inaugurated on 10th January on the occasion of Annual Day. The Climbing Wall is first of its kind in any educational institute in Pimpri – Chinchwad. DrShridharGokhale, former HOD of English Dept, Savitribai Phule Pune University, was invited as the chief guest on this occasion. Everest summiteers Shri Krishna Dhokle, Rtd. Addl.Commissioner of PCMC Shri Rohidas Konde, Mathadhipati of Mata Amritanandamayi Math, Swami Vidyamritananda Puri were present on this occasion.
Speed climbing demonstration was given by Std. 9th student Omkar Umesh Kute. Rappelling demonstration was given by Parent Mr. Wadkar & School Staff Mr. Jeetendra Chavan.
In this speech, Dr. Gokhale congratulated the school for being the first educational institute to offer a sportsclimbing wall to the students. Dr.Dhokle gave information about the Sports wall climbing activity, benefits of such an activity in all round development of the students’ personality. After school tuition, home work, the students don’t have sufficient time to play. The climbing wall will make it possible for the students to play during school hours. Engaging in the climbing wall activity will influence the physical, mental as well as social aspects of the students positively. This sport helps develop in the students the ability to face challenges and to keep high aims.
The Principal, Brni. Pavanamrita Chaitanya, in her speech applauded Shri Krishna Dhokle under whose guidance, the Sports Climbing Wall has been set up Shri Dhokle has accepted the responsibility to train the students in this sport. Mountaineering has gained immense importance in the world and now fast gaining importance in India. This sport will definitely lead to overall personality development of the students. Hence, the school has set up the Sports Climbing Wall.
