Students Pay Tribute to Amma’s Legacy

Amrita Vidyalayam school celebrated Amma’s 71st Birthday in great enthusiasm. A drama titled “Amma – The Mother of all” was performed, portraying the inspiring life story of Amma, also known as Mata Amritanandamayi Devi. The performance depicted key events from Amma’s life, starting from her birth in Parayakadavu, Kerala, to when her family recognized her divine nature. The drama highlighted her journey of love and compassion towards the poor, her meditation on the purpose of life, and her establishment of schools to uplift the underprivileged. Amma’s philosophy of service to humanity shone through, emphasizing her motto of love, education, and charity.

Students from Class VIII participated in a graceful and traditional “Thiruvathirakali” dance performance. This dance, also known as Kaikottikali, is a cultural expression from Kerala performed by women during the Thiruvathira festival, dedicated to Lord Shiva. The students performed the dance with great enthusiasm around a traditional oil lamp called Nila Vilakku, showcasing the rhythmic movements, clapping, and singing that characterize this beautiful art form. The dance is performed as a prayer for marital bliss, and its spiritual essence was well captured by the participants.

In total, 42 students from various grades participated in these events, with 12 students from Class VIII specifically performing in the Thiruvathirakali dance. Both performances demonstrated the students’ dedication and appreciation for Indian cultural traditions, as well as their admiration for the teachings of Amma. The events were a perfect blend of devotion, talent, and cultural pride, leaving a lasting impact on the audience.
