Amrita Sports Climbing Coach and Everest Summiteer Sri Krishna Dhokale sir participated in an expedition to Mt. Hanuman Tibba located in the Pir Panjal range of the Himalayas near Manali and successfully completed the mission. At the summit, he proudly displayed the banner of Amrita Vidyalayam.
The base camp was established at Biyas Kund (15,500 ft.) from where the river Biyas originates. Reaching Tentu Pass before Camp 1 by overcoming the vertical notch was the crux of the climb. The climbers had to do rock climbing at high altitude and at the same time safeguard themselves from constant rock fall from above. They had to fix about 800 feet of rope for this patch of climbing.
After establishing Camp 1, they established Camp 2 as the summit camp. Above Camp 2, the climbers opened a route on an ice wall by fixing 900 feet of safety rope and hammering ice pitons into the wall to reach the summit. The team sought valuable guidance from experienced mountaineers of GIRIPREMI, Mr. Umesh Zirpe and Mr. Khemraj Thakur of Mountain Expeditions, Manali.
