“If you desire to make a difference in the world, you must be different from the world.”
March 1st is celebrated as ‘Zero Discrimination Day’. Keeping this in mind, under the guidance of C20, the ‘Aikyam’ project was launched in Amrita Vidyalayam, Nigdi, Pune with the theme ‘Reducing the divide between society’s definition of normal and disabled’. The project aimed to bring children from schools for the disabled together with children from our school to work as a team for the ‘Seed Ball Creation’ activity. The project is a C20 activity that will last throughout the month.
Five students of our school were teamed with each student guest from the school for the disabled, and the team stayed together throughout the program. The activity started with a prayer, followed by a welcome speech in honour of the guests, highlighting the importance of working together as a team. The activity announcement was made in a language which the guest students could understand the best, and the activity rules were explained clearly. Then the seed ball creation activity was carried out, where students were taught to follow Amma’s ‘Seed Ball creation’ idea and how it helps to revive nature, thereby benefiting us too.
The cultural program was performed by our young budding stars and our music teacher, by singing melodious songs. After the cultural program, a discussion session was conducted where students were encouraged to share their experiences and thoughts.
The AIKYAM project was a huge success and helped in promoting inclusivity and unity among students. It also helped in creating awareness about the importance of nature conservation and the role that each one of us can play. The project left a lasting impression on all the participants and helped in fostering a sense of community and togetherness.
